made money. We gave the money directly to families that needed it. One year, we thankfully didn’t have a local family in need, so we gave the money we raised to the Carol Simon Cancer Center to help patients there.

After my son Brady was born, between my family and work, another Hope Open seemed impossible, but then in 2021, my friend Taryn was diagnosed. There was such an outpouring of love from the community - people just wanted to do something to help somehow. So, the event was resurrected. That was the first year we held the event at the Black Oak Golf Club. I had more volunteers than I knew what to do with, and it was a tremendous success. It was time to make things more official, so in 2022 Long Valley Hopes was formed as a NJ non-profit organization to continue to do the work I had started with the Hope Open many years before.

The organization raises money for local families in need of financial assistance because of a cancer diagnosis or other serious illness, and also provides educational resources to the community about cancer screenings.

Long Valley truly continues to show how much we love. Through the Hope Open, which is now held on the first Monday of each October, as well as other fundraisers and events throughout the year, Long Valley Hopes raises money for local families in need of assistance. Our goal is to give struggling families one less thing to worry about in their time of need. I can’t thank you enough for your continued support.

I decided that I wanted to help others who didn’t have the same support or weren’t as fortunate as I was. I called to sign up for a popular 3-day Walk for Breast Cancer, but I was told that you had to have $1800.00 in pledges before you could walk. I didn’t think I would have any problem raising the money, but I asked – “what if someone couldn’t raise the money?” I was told they wouldn’t be able to walk. I found that to be ridiculous… So, the Hope Open was born.

The first two Hope Opens were held at the Mine Brook Country Club, and the third and fourth at the Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club. They were informal events; foursomes and prizes were written down on bar napkins. Friends and family turned out to support me in my quest to help others so they didn’t have to worry about finances when they were fighting for their lives. I wasn't that organized, but with the help of many friends and family members, we always
