Crippled Creations

Born and raised in Farmville, NC, Monty King suffered a Spinal Stroke in April of 2020, paralyzing him from the neck down for 10 days, and keeping him wheelchair bound for the last 3 years.  By mid-2021 he regained most of the feeling and movement in his arms and hands, with some feeling in his legs.

After watching a YouTube Video of a man named Jordy Johnson carving a wood spirit face on a piece of driftwood, he bought a Dremel Drill from Harbor Freight and things just snowballed from there.

Carving has given Monty a new sense of purpose. It has helped him to regain his self-confidence and fine motor skills in his hands.  He uses the proceeds from his sales to support his physical therapy and rehab as he still doesn’t have feeling below the knees, and is determined to get back to walking and working like he used to.

In his words “I enjoy the carving because it keeps me busy, and I’m not just sitting around getting fat.”

Several pieces of Monty's work will be for sale at the HOPE OPEN 10/7/24
